Roll and Dot pizza math

Today we worked on our math skills. We made pizzas by adding "toppings." The children had to roll a die, then dot that number of "toppings" on the slice. We filled up our pizzas to create a yummy slice of pizza.

Pizza Pizza

Over the next 3 weeks (and 3 days) we will be exploring the pizza theme. The children helped set up the classroom selecting almost all the materials that are within the classroom. This really increases the level of engagement within the classroom setting when they personally select the toys they want to play with.
We will finish up our letters and prep for our Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom celebration, continue to learn about numbers 0-20 (counting, recognizing, writing). Pizza theme lends itself to lots of writing: taking orders for friends, journal activities, and class books. We will measure again using how many pizza slices tall are the Octopus Class (same as leaves and gingerbread men). Science will be exploring with spin art. We have 4 books that lend itself for some great retelling opportunities (watch for this on seesaw).

Hungry Hungry Hippo

Hungry, Hungry Hippos-The children got to pick a number, and glue that many teeth into the hippo's mouth (of course we go to eat the teeth too!)
