What did the dinosaurs look like?

We worked in our journals today to create a picture of what we thought the dinosaurs might look like; many descriptive words were used like long neck, long tail, spikes, and claws. For the children that are ready we practiced writing what letter dinosaur starts with, or actually writing the word dinosaur or the names of the dinosaurs like T-Rex, or Spineasaurs. Such amazing writers!

We are the dinosaurs

We have changed themes again! This time we will be exploring the world of dinosaurs. We will continue to learn about letters, explore birds (owls and turkeys) for our November nonfiction unit, and learning how to rhyme.
The dinosaur theme lends itself to lots of sorting by color and size, rote counting and numeral recognition, as well as practicing our fine motor skills of cutting out many different egg shapes. We will make another class book with the connection to Brown Bear but Dinosaur Dinosaur what do you hear-and they get to roar for the picture!

We sorted by color today in two different ways. We sorted cars by different color, then skittles onto a train. Of course the best part is always getting to eat your way through math.

All about spiders

We completed our first non fiction unit of study with a K and L chart (what we Know and Learned). I introduced the children to fiction and non fiction.
First we wrote down all the things we know about spiders, then I read them a short non fiction story. After that we checked what we knew to see if it was right and wrote down more things that were new that we learned. We will do this 1 time a month to experience non fiction books!
