In went the Octopus Class

Connecting class books to our book we read for the week is one of my favorite ways to promote the love of reading, beginning stages of reading with predicitable text, and of course the stars of the show the Octopus Class.

Last week we read "Mrs. Wishy Washy" were naughty animals played in the mud even after a bath-of course we had the same problem in the Octopus class; Into the tub you go!

Down on the farm...

We have switched our first theme for the year; fall, farm, and fire safety. We will explore all things apples, pumpkins, fire safety, and farm aniamls. This has two big explorations of apple tasting, and pumpkin carving (we will be learning the parts of the apples, and pumpkins as well). STEM fun of building a barn, and more!

Journals

We will work in our journals all year long. This is a time to work on following multi step directions, learning to write beginning sounds, practicing invented spelling, and even how to form sentences all around a themed writing prompt.

Today we explored favorite colors. We have been reading a book about "Bear sees Colors," made a class book about our favorite colors, and then finished by having a crayon to indicate our favorite color in our journals.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear what do you sort/taste?

Sometimes math is yummy-we have been reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear what do you see? Along with retelling the story, recognizing colors and animals we completed a math activity. We took M&Ms and sorted by color/character. We counted how many each color had, which had the most/least, and of course got to eat (if they wanted too).
