We opened the block center and explored many ways to create a building, or castle, or ramp. We have a variety of blocks available during the school year from hard wood blocks, soft foam blocks, straw builders, gear builders, legos, and magnetic blocks at the light table. The building and creations never stop!

We kicked off the year with making an octopus to introduce scissors. We do a lot of work with scissors throughout the year, and today was about proper hand placement, strength to open and close, and how to stay on a line.

Throughout the year/theme there will many chances for new learning through path games. These can be a variety of games including short path (10 more less spaces) long path (10 or more spaces), grid (cover all or 4 in a row, etc) and a variety of other math skills being practiced. This time of the school year we have a variety of games connecting to our favorite story book characters, working on numeral ID, and of course Octopus fun. We explored the "how to" play, and then got to practice.

Welcome to the Octopus Class! I am so excited for another year of learning, making friends, and exploring together. We will start the school year learning "all about school" during this time we explore many centers, and classroom materials. We will start to learn new friends, and reconnect with old ones.
