Letter S

Today was the first day we dove into our exploration of letters. We started with the letter S. We know many words that start with the letters, created our first page in the ABC scrap book of stickers and stamps on the S, and today created an ice cream with scoops of how old we are. The children cut the cone, and counted their scoops.

Pete the Cat: Groovy Button game

We learned basic addition and subtraction with Pete the Cat. We had been reading the story: Pete the Cat: 4 Groovy Buttons, then played a game to add and subtract the buttons.

Fall, Farm, and Fire Safety

Our first theme change of the year is: Fall, Farm, and Fire Safety. With this comes apples, pumpkins, fire safety rules, and many animals. We will learn three letters: S, A, and P so we can also explore with spiders, pumpkins, and apples. During academic choice these three weeks we will explore a lot of ways to count, numbers, and using our fine motor skills to create apples, pumpkins, and fire safety activities. Dramatic play will be the Octopus Farm where the children can become animals, drive a tractor, and go to a pumpkin patch. We will taste apples, journal and graph our favorite apple, and carve a pumpkin by taking out the pulp and seeds, and graphing our favorite shape for the face.

Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom Letter Hunt

We dove into letters, and did so with Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom. This book starts our letter learning, and ends it with a celebration once we have learned all 26 letters.
Thursday we used our coconut trees to find our name, and an Ispy letter hunt.

Brown Bear Sorting

We have been reading Brown Bear, and naturally we needed a yummy way to learn to sort. We used M&M's to sort onto our Brown Bear characters.

Dive into preschool with the Octopus Class

Everything is prepped for another year of amazing learning, fun, and friends.
All the centers are ready for exploration from blocks to books, dramatic play, and sensory table. Each part of the classroom throughout the year will be developed together. The children will select materials they want to engage within (right now it is selected from last year's Octopi). We will explore through play, whole group time, music and movement, as well as learning to regulate our emotions.
Its going to be an amazing year, and I look forward to sharing all the experiences your children have with you!
